MIRACULOUS MEDAL
(sterling silver)
Worn as a visible sign of devotion to Mary, the Immaculate Conception, and to her Son, Jesus; the image of Mary standing on the globe of the Earth with a crushed snake (representing Satan) under her feet depicts the vision reported by St. Catherine Labouré, a sister of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, in 1830.
Around the perimeter is the prayer "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee." As Catherine received her vision, a voice told her, "Have a medal struck after this model . . . Graces will abound for persons who wear it with confidence."
Blue enameled sterling silver medal with filigree frame, 7/8" x 5/8"; 18" sterling silver chain with spring-catch clasp. Red velvet jewelry box.
